I'm a writer. I'm an artist. I'm a graphic designer.
(Here’s a longer, more official-sounding version.)
Talking to my mother about writing one day, I told her I thought writing was just a part of being creative, and just a part of being an artist — when she gave me the strangest look. "No," she replied, "this is something different."

I came home that day and stewed over her comment for quite a while, but I finally had to agree with her, because not many artists write, and not many writers paint.
For years, people have asked me how I can do both at the same time. (How the hell does she do it?) Not that painting or writing is comes easy for me, but I first began drawing and and painting by the tender age of 2. Throughout my life I gained a lot of experience, especially during high school, and later in college, at the University Of Florida. I briefly majored in drawing and painting but decided it was best to apply to the Graphic Design college. I was accepted.
Fast forward to 2012. By this time I was married with a family and satisfied with my graphics career. I had worked hard at different jobs and proved I wasn't half bad as a designer, having won five Golden Addy Awards. It was about that time I woke up with an idea from a dream. ( I have many vivid dreams.) So I sat up and decided to write it out. I enjoyed it and became a little bit obsessive with my characters. Eventually Escape To Phobos became part of a trilogy.

Art for me is a passion and a purpose. As an artist I paint out a feeling. Inside a painting I have words in mind but it is a visual creation. On a canvas I cannot paint out a word/name. But with writing I can. Someone will know what I have said, because I've gone ahead and written the words out — inside my books.

A Symbiotic Tale
By Missy Kavanaugh, Illustrated by K. Van Kramer
This story involves a lonely sea anemone and a playful clown fish, for children ages 3-6, so I used bright colorful images to bring this story to life. I had fun with the visual imagery, and used illustrator to created the drawings. I worked closely with Missy, to ensure that my art complemented the story and appealed to young children. I found a lot of satisfaction in knowing that my work can inspire and captivate young minds, and make a positive impact on children's literacy. Later I produced the file using In-Design.
The Man Who Planted Seeds
By Missy Kavanaugh, Illustrated by K. Van Kramer
I worked closely with Missy on this story and decided to use soft watercolors to illustrate the chapters and important events throughout the story.
The book is about a boy who becomes curious about a Shepard and why he has chosen such a lonely life. The boy befriends him for a time, and learns the Shepard is trying to restore a ruined, and largely abandoned Alp valley by single-handedly cultivating a forest, by planting acorns.
Years later the boy returns to find the Shepard, and realizes he is the reason that the valley has been turned into a Garden of Eden.
