I'm a writer. I'm an artist. I'm a graphic designer.
(In no order)
For a very long time I thought writing was simply a facet of being an artist, until one day after discussing it with my mother, she looked at me incredulously, "No, writing is something entirely different," she siad.
I decided maybe she was right; after all, not that many artists write, and very few writers paint. (Annie Dillard did, and theres probably more examples, but most authors choose to dedicate their time to writing and most painters usually focus on painting) I could even make the same argument about graphic design vs. fine art.
While neither painting nor writing is particularly easy, I started painting at the tender age of two. My artistic journey continued to evolve through high school and later at the University of Florida, where I briefly majored in drawing and painting before applying to the college of Graphic Design.
Fast forward to 2012, after years of work, and earning five Addy Awards, I suddenly began writing. But all of it was done with time, hard work and dedication. Between 2011-2012 I also took one year of dedicated college courses at Strayer University to learn website design.
So, painting, writing, and graphic design (In no order) are my passions and my purpose. As an artist, I express myself through painting, while writing allows me to articulate my thoughts clearly within the pages of my books. I consider Graphic design to be a third discipline, that requires a great deal of knowledge with computers and computer programs like Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.

The Man Who Planted Seeds
By Missy Kavanaugh, Illustrated by K. Van Kramer
Inspired by Winnie The Pooh classics, I decided to use soft watercolors to illustrate this book. The story follows a boy who becomes curious about a local Shepard and why he has chosen such a lonely life. The boy befriends him for a time, and learns the man is trying to restore a ruined, and largely abandoned Alp valley by single-handedly cultivating a forest, by planting acorns. Years later the boy returns to find the Shepard, and realizes he is the reason that the valley has been turned into a Garden of Eden. Beautiful hardcovers are available on Lulu.
