I wanted to help my son with some comic book stories and character ideas he has so I started playing around with a drawing program called Clip Studio. I used Wacom pen and the program is actually pretty cool and works well for artists who prefer to do illustrations on a computer.
Later, after doing a few of his comic characters, I did an illustration for one of my books. It was labor intensive but I can see som of the advantages of digital art - for one thing you can "command z" and erase anything you've done that you don't like. However, it's also an advantage to have classic drawing and painting skills which helps in terms of process, color, shape and value. As for computer generated art, I still think that there's a few problems with the value. And value is a pretty big deal for artists. For instance, you can instantly copy computer generated art, and there is no "original". Thats why Fine art refers to any form of visual art that cannot be used for commercial or practical purposes, while digital art is basically a product to be sold. Each has its advantages but only a fine Art painting can have an original. Copies of a painting course can be produced using a camera, but the Fine art original is always more tactile, and wows the senses. Fine art is also ten times more difficult because if you make a mistake, theres no command z.
